What and What Not to Pack 

What we provide for your use

  • Insulated and waterproof boots 

  • Jackets - down puffy, midweight and waterproof shell

  • Ski/snow Pants (winter), Trekking pants (summer)

  • Mittens and gloves

  • Warm hats

  • Full backcountry ski equipment kit - boots, skis, skins, poles, backpacks, helmets, avalanche beacon, probe and shovel. Snowshoes are available if preferred.

What to pack from your personal collection

  • Insulated base layers for glacier exploration: thermal, mid layers, sweater: synthetics preferred over cotton layers: Wool/insulated socks

  • Winter hat, baseball hat, sun hat

  • Sunglasses / ski goggles (winter)

  • Footwear/slippers for inside Sheldon Chalet

  • Bathing suit for sauna

  • Any favorite, comfortable, cozy apparel to wear while inside Sheldon Chalet.



Luggage

Travel to the Sheldon Chalet via helicopter limits the size of personal luggage. Each guest is allowed one piece of luggage and one daypack.

A soft sided airline approved carry on, backpack, duffel bags are all great choices.

Maximum 40 lbs of luggage per person.

Your outdoor apparel and ski kit will be waiting for you at Sheldon Chalet making it easy to pack light.

Emergency Contact Information

907-830-1984 is a good number to provide to family/friends at home in case of an emergency.

Once on property you’ll have limited access to devices that allow communication to anyone you need to stay in contact with while you are gone.

STAFF GRATUITY

Our chef, concierge and guides strive to provide you with the most extraordinary experience possible. We believe tipping is a gesture of your satisfaction with that experience.

We are often asked to provide a recommendation for the gratuity. We recommend 12% - 15% of the value of your experience. We will see that your generosity is distributed to Chef, Concierge, Guides. Gratuity can be taken care of by ACH or credit card ahead of your trip by contacting Marne Sheldon or paid after your departure. Or you may prefer to leave cash with the team. The choice is yours.

Pilot gratuity recommendation is $100-$150 per flight. Please bring cash to tip your pilots. You may or may not have the same pilot for inbound and outbound flights.

We provide ground transportation from your local area hotel or overnight accommodations to our helicopter departure locations. A Salmonberry Tours Driver/Guide will connect with you you the day before your Sheldon Chalet departure and provide your pick up time and helicopter departure time.

We plan for a 10:30 pick up and 11:00 helicopter departure. If we encounter a weather hold, Salmonberry Tours will offer a tour of Anchorage until the time of departure. If you are staying at Hotel Alyeska we will have the helicopter pick you up directly from the Hotel.
